Whenever I walk to work, I pass by a certain building. It's nothing remarkable--a big glass-and-steel office building. There are probably a thousand others like it in DC. Maybe a million others.
One thing, though, makes this building special. Every time I walk past, I hear a loud caw, the unmistakable sound of some nasty bird with great sharp talons. This has been going on for the past three weeks, which leads me to propose three possible conclusions.
1. Some rare species of bird is nesting somewhere in the building
2. The building has a built-in electric bird call to discourage nesting pigeons
3. A while back, a bird flew into one of the windows, got stuck, and has remained there ever since, cawing its troubles to an uncaring world
In my opinion, all three possibilities are equally cool.
